Training Plates

The dual construction of Power Systems Training Plates provides maximum durability in high volume strength training sessions. While these are still classified as bumper plates, the reinforced inner stainless steel disc is both the visual and functional differentiator. The purpose of the wide inner disc is twofold: 1) even distribution of force across the plate when dropped and 2) reinforcement of the center hole of the plate - the location where most bumpers without steel discs wear and crack over time. Training Plates are ideal for high volume Olympic Weightlifting and Powerlifting programs for athletes of all fitness levels and sports. Power Systems Training Plates are available in LBS increments and can be purchased in black or Olympic colors.

Bumper Plates

Popular for the sports of Olympic Weightlifting and Powerlifting. Bumper plates are made to be used with Olympic sized barbells on strength training surfaces such as lifting platforms, rubber flooring, or concrete. The rubber construction of the bumper plate allows the plate and bar to bounce and distribute the force when dropped limiting damage to the bar, plate, and training surface. Bumper plates are available from 10 -55 LBS or 5- 25 KGS and have a uniform, large diameter of 17-18 inches regardless of weight. The thickness of a bumper plate typically ranges from 1 - 2.5" based on the weight.

Olympic Plate Weights

Olympic sized plates is a broad term used to descirbe any weight plate designed to fit onto an Olympic Barbell - a barbell with a 2 in. diameter sleeve. The difference is in the material construction and the usage. Olympic plates made from steel, cast iron, or urethane are typically used in traditional weight rooms and are not meant to be dropped. Olympic Weightlifters and Powerlifters use olympic sized weight plates made from rubber, i.e. bumper, training, competition plates, as they are designed to be dropped on a sport appropriate training surface.

Standard Weight Plates

Contrary to what the name suggests, standard weight plates are not "standard" for the weight room. Standard weight plates are significantly smaller & lighter than Olympic sized weight plates which is why they are commonly found in fitness studio classes and home gyms. These plates have center opening between 1-1.25" and are designed to fit onto Standard Barbells. Our most popular standard sized barbell and plate set is the ProElite Pump Set.
