Mix Things Up

Fresh programming will keep results consistent and your clients coming back for more. But sometimes adjusting the weight, sets, and reps with machines or free weights simply won’t produce the shift you are looking for.  In this case, consider changing training modalities not only to get clients over training plateaus, but also to spike their (and your) interest.

For example, put down your clipboards and get involved with each exercise by using equipment from our Power Force line. Integrate cardio conditioning between sets by using Punching Mitts, Pro Kick and Punch Shields, and Double Focus Targets. Both you and your client will enjoy the change of pace by adding some MMA programming moves into a workout. Use the Power Training Rope as another tool to help you get some cardio in between sets. This kind of training can also provide stress relieving benefits as your client performs punching, kicking, and throwing movements throughout the workout.

For even more variety when it comes to cardio, talk to your clients about spending a couple of sessions a week in the pool. This is a great way to increase cardio conditioning and burn a ton of calories in the process. Use the Pull Buoy to isolate the upper body or the Kickboard to concentrate on lower body movements. If your client would rather stay on dry land, use tools like the Pro Agility Ladder or Agility Rings for cardio drills as an alternative to the treadmill or the elliptical.

Or, maybe you need to slow your clients down a bit after weeks of hard core training programming. Turn the focus to training your clients’ stability and stabilizer musculature by using balance pads and boards. Use the VersaDisc or the VersaBalance Pad under the front or back leg of a lunge to slow down the tempo and strengthen the ligaments of the knees and ankles. Use the VersaBalance Board to increase complexity of a single leg exercise or put it under one hand when performing push-ups. Use the CorDisc as an unstable foundation for abdominal exercises.

If you find your sessions have been delivering consistently from a traditional strength training standpoint, try changing things up with more untraditional yet functional training tools. Turn a traditional training tool like the Olympic bar and turn it into a 3D functional training piece by pairing it with the Landmine and Handle. The bar will now pivot on end and allow you to program different push, pull, and rotational movements. The Versa Fit Log is a dynamic alternative to traditional barbells and dumbbells for weighted lower body strength training (i.e. lunges, squats, step ups, squat jumps, etc.) Use the Wood Training Rings to take body weight training to a new level with various suspension training exercises.

As you can see there are many ways to switch up a training routine. Use these tools to take your clients to the next level this fall.
